Here is the video of Spirited Heart handing out blankets:

I am talking about helping a 3rd World Nation in our very own back yard, South Dakota, USA.

Some facts about Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota:

  • 97% of the population lives below Federal poverty levels
  • An average of 17 people live in each family home (a home that only has 2 or 3 rooms)
  • Unemployment varies from 85% - 95%
  • Average life expectancy is approximately 45 years old
  • Average media income is approximately $ 2,600 - $ 3,500 a year
  • At least 60% of the homes need to be burned to the ground due to infestation of the potentially-fatal Black Mold
  • Elderly die each year from freezing
  • Teenage suicide rate is 150% higher than the U.S. National Average for this age group
  • Between the ages of 9 to 13 there were over 40 suicides in spring of 2011

The Lakota resident of Pine Ridge have been dealt a not so nice life even back in 1778-1883 when treaties were signed. Many treaties were broken as soon as they were written.

So far we have brought over 6,000 blankets, and 50 heaters this past November. We are in need of more blankets, heaters, and monetary funds to help the Lakota residents get thru this winter. We are planning on heading back up to the Reservation at the end of January.  The spring of 2012 I will be building new homes, refurbishing old homes. I am asking for funds to furnish the lumber for these homes to be built as well. I want to give them a better quality of life. I want to give them hope for themselves. I would like to let them have a warm, dry place to call home.

I CARE!! I need your help in accomplishing these goals. What we are looking for are funds or donated items to obtain the following:

  • Building materials to build new homes
  • To purchase land outside of the Rez.
  • Materials to build a home (on land outside of the rez.) for use as a temporary home for Lakota residents as their homes are being refurbished
  • Building materials for refurbishing houses
  • Materials to build a storage facility
  • Blankets
  • Heaters
  • Pillows
  • Socks
  • Clothing (hooded sweatshirts, sweat pants)
  • Mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR GENEROUSITY!!!

The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

lakota-pine-ridge-cropped is the home of some of the proudest people in our country.  They have stood tall through the worst possible events and have fought to maintain their heritage and homelands.

However, the Pine Ridge Lakota are also some of the poorest people in our country.  With their resources taken over by the US Government, they have little to work with and even less to maintain themselves on.

We feel it is time for someone to step in and extend a helpful hand to those that were once so generous to others.

lakota-pine-ridge-2This website is about helping the people on the reservation bring themselves up above the poverty line, and make changes to their own environment.

Through education and instruction we can move the Pine Ridge Lakota towards new possibilities.  By giving them the resources they need to apply the education and instruction, we move them towards a whole new world, where hunger and loss are a thing of the past.

Please take a few minutes to become familiar with the Lakota people and the beauty that is within and around them.  Visit our photo gallery and read the articles.  If you are able, please consider donating resources, money and/or time to help make a dramatic change in the lives of those living on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
